Prime Minister attended the rejoicing ceremony of power generation from machine unit 1 of Lai Chau hydro power plant

On 23-12, in Lai Chau, Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) has organized the rejoicing ceremony of power generation from machine unit 1. Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung came to attend this ceremony and made a guidance speech.

     Lai Chau hydro power plant with total investment of 35,700 billion dongs is a special project and also the third biggest one to be built on Da River together with Son La hydro power plant and Hoa Binh hydro power plant. The main duty of this project is to provide electricity for the national grid and serve flood prevention in rainy season, supply water for the Northern Delta in dry season, and contribute to speed up the economic & social development in Lai Chau province, Dien Bien province as well as the Northwest area, ensuring the national defence & security in the Northwest

     The project with total capacity of 1,200 MW consists of 3 machine units (each one has capacity of 400 MW). The Owner is EVN, Song Da Corporation is the main contractor of construction & installation and Lilama Corporation has been participating to install the whole equipment of the project. On 14-12-2015, machine unit 1 of Lai Chau hydro power plant has officially generated electricity, merging into the national power grid 3 months ahead of schedule. This is also an important milestone and the premise to accomplish the entire project within 2016, a year earlier than the defined schedule in the Government's decision. When Lai Chau hydro power plant is put into operation, the total capacity of all hydro power projects on Da River will be raised to 6,500 MW, supplying approximately 25 billion kWh of power each year.

      At the moment, rotor of machine unit 2 of the plant is being assembled and the work has achieved by 50%. As anticipated, in the end of April 2016 this rotor will be installed and machine unit 2 will generate electricity in July 2016. Machine unit 3 will be finished by November 2016. In Lai Chau hydro power project, Lilama has been participating to supply and manufacture some equipment, assemble and install the whole equipment of the plant with total quantity of approximately 32,690 tons.

     Speeking at the ceremony, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung emphasized that the Lai Chau hydro power plant was a specially important project, a national main one. It didnot only generate electricity, ensuring power energy for economic & social development of the country but also contribute to regulate Da River. Together with Son La hydro power plant, Hoa Binh hydor power plant, Lai Chau project would have a part in controlling flood in rainy season, supplying water for the lower section in dry season, assuring the economy-society, reinforcing the national defence-security. Prime Minister also highly appreciated and praised the Owner as well as 8000 engineers, technicians and workers who had worked hard and overcome many difficulties to accomplish a big work volume at site so as to have this ceremony.

     On behalf of the Government, Prime Minister commended the efforts of the Party committee, local authority and people of Lai Chau province in the work of emigration and resettlement. He also assessed the close guidance of State Steering Board for Son La, Lai Chau hydro power projects, ministries, relevant organs of the Government and National Assembly who had enabled the Owner to realize this project.

      Prime Minister said that the power generation from machine unit 1 was just the first success. He required the Owner to concentrate the guidance on finishing necessary work so that machine unit 1 can operate safely, effectively, supply electricity stably and continue to carry out other works together with contractors, striving for project accomplishment as committed.

      On this occasion, Prime Minister attended the sealing ceremony for the plate “Project in celebration of 12th National Party Congress” for Lai Chau hydro power plant. On behalf of the Party and State, he awarded 5 second-class Labour Medals, 5 third-class Labour Medals for 10 collectives with excellent achievements in Lai Chau project performance. Moreover, 9 individuals were awarded second-class Labour Medals and 14 were given third-class Labour Medals, 10 individuals received Certificates of Merit by Prime Minister.
