LILAMA 18 Affirms Vietnamese Contractors’ Role in Performing Quang Trach I Power Plant
Quang Trach I Thermal Power Plant project, a key national project within the Quang Trach Power Center, is entering its final stage of completion, with overall progress reaching approximately 98% which the Unit 1 is ready to be connected to the national grid by late March or early April 2026 and put into commercial operation in May 2026. Contributing to the whole project’s success was the extensive involvement of domestic contractors, especially LILAMA 18 Joint Stock Company (LILAMA 18) as a member of LILAMA Corporation, which helped affirmed strongly the capability, resilience, and technological mastery of Vietnam’s mechanical engineering and installation enterprises.

Quang Trach I project is invested by Vietnam Electricity (EVN), represented and managed by Power Project Management Board No. 2 (EVNPMB2). The plant is built in an area of approximately 48.6 hectares, comprising of two units with a total capacity of 1,403 MW, and applying advanced supercritical technology to ensure high efficiency and reduced emissions. Once operational, it is expected to supply an electricity production of around 8.4 to 9 billion kWh annually to the national power system, making an important contribution to energy security and supporting socio-economic development in the Central Region as well as across the country.
One of the project’s highlights is the increasingly deep involvement of Vietnamese contractors in the EPC package. Most of the mechanical works, including the boiler house steel structure, turbine hall, tank systems, cooling water pipelines, and many auxiliary equipment systems, had been undertaken by domestic enterprises, through which their significant progress was obviously exposed in the capability of construction, fabrication, and installation, step by step minimizing dependence on foreign contractors and enhancing self-reliance in performing large-scale energy projects.

Among them, LILAMA 18 has stood out as one of the typical contractors leaving a strong mark in execution of high-tech equipment systems. According to Mr. Pham The Thao, Site Commander of LILAMA 18, the most important items with technically complex mechanical work i.e. the boiler steel structure, turbine-generator system, high-pressure tank systems, and process pipelines had all been directly installed by LILAMA units, including LILAMA 18 and LILAMA 10. As the result, the competence of technology mastery not only demonstrates Vietnamese enterprises’ capability in term of technics but also opens opportunities for them to participate more deeply in the value chain of large-scale thermal power projects in the future.
As the Quang Trach 1 construction enters its final sprint, the entire site is intensifying for commissioning, interlock testing, and completing necessary technical conditions in preparation for grid connection and power generation. The success of the project is significant not only for a single thermal power plant, but also as an important foundation for the future development of the Quang Trach Power Center.
It could be affirmed that the proactive and effective participation of LILAMA 18 in nationally important energy projects has helped elevate the position of Vietnamese contractors, which not only is proof of the technological mastery, but also reflects domestic companies’ determination to build an autonomous, modern and sustainable power industry, making a positive contribution to national energy security in a new stage of development.
