Nhon Trach 3&4 Project was owned by Petrovietnam Power Corporation (PV Power) and implemented by the Consortium of Samsung C&T – Lilama Corporation as the EPC Contractor. The project has a total investment of about 1.4 billion USD with the combined capacity of 1,624 MW, which shall produce over 9 billion kWh per year when operating, supplementing substantial power for the national electricity system in Vietnam, especially in the Southern Region.
The two plants were installed with the world class technological gas turbine modeled 9HA.02 supplied by GE (USA), which would gain 62-64% in efficiency when working, satisfying strict requirement on emission and having possibility of flexible fuel conversion for the future change toward hydrogen. This is a very important step in Vietnam’s energy transition journey and commitment realization of net ‘zero’ emission by the year 2050.
Mr. Prime Minister emphasized that with an electricity production of over 9 billion kWh per year from Nhon Trach 3&4 plants, the official operation of the first LNG complex in Vietnam has laid a foundation for the gas-power market of the country.

Addressing a speech in the ceremony, Mr. Chinh affirmed that Nhon Trach 3&4 plants complex was ‘a special important segment’ of the national energy security, forming a foundation for the national gas power market in Vietnam. He also assessed the project exemplified for a typical model in terms of scale, technology, schedule and investment efficiency as well as a demonstration for a bravery and capability of the State-owned enterprise’s management and implementation in the field of energy.
According to The Prime Minister, with an electricity production of over 9 billion kWh per, the plants would not only ensure a stable power source for the national social-economic development but also create a basis for clean, flexible and advanced energy system chain in order to meet high growth needs, especially for high-tech industries with digital transformation and green transition being boosted in Vietnam in the coming time.

On the business’s side, Petrovietnam leader underlined that Nhon Trach 3&4 complex is a pioneer project which opens the way for LNG gas power centers establishment in the future, making contribution into the realization of the National Power Plan VIII as well as raising the position of Vietnam in the global energy supply chain.
Remarkably, Lilama Corporation, in the Consortium of EPC Contractor, had undertook large work volume for this first LNG project, left a clear imprint on the competency of implementing high-tech gas power projects despite of facing numerous unprecedent challenges within the context of the Covid-19 pandemic spreading in Vietnam and worldwide, global supply chain change, strictly technical requirements and international standards.

Particularly, LILAMA President said that the construction of Nhon Trach 3&4 had experienced a lot of difficulties. From early days of the starting, the project was deeply influenced by the Covid-19 pandemic, next the fluctuation of global material and equipment market, and then The Red Sea crisis with supply chain interruption, which were barriers that it could not seemingly overcome. To LILAMA, however, this is a motivation to express its bravery. The company had carried out intensive mobilization of professional engineers and skilled workers, deployed constant execution on many segments; mastering complicated items strictly requiring high precision, safety and international standards; proactively using technical solutions to resolve entanglements in-time during performance in order to secure the project progress.

“Above all, we have firmly held our commitment for the quality of each completed item imprinted with dedication and professionalism.” – stressed by Mr. Hung.
This is not only the success of the whole project but also the demonstration for capability of Vietnam in performing large-scale power works, especially those installed with gas turbine of new generation technology.
LILAMA leader also said that the success of Nhon Trach 3&4 not only makes it to become a model project in the energy sector, but also forms a basis for LILAMA to continuously participate, compete and undertake national key power projects as a role of EPC Contractor in the coming time.
