Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung cut the inauguration band of the plant

     Vung Ang 1 thermal power plant was invested by Petroleum of Vietnam (PVN) and performed by EPC Contractor Lilama Corporation (Lilama). The plant has total capacity of 1,200MW consisting of 2 machine units, the first has been put into commercial operation since 31-12-2014 and the second has been put into use since 12-5-2015.

    The project has large capacity of machine unit (600MW), using advanced technology of direct coal burning with high effect, satisfying the requirements of environmental protection. This is one of the few projects having an encouraging proportion of interiorization (30%), including packages with interiorization rate of 55%. Up to now, the plant has provided the national electricity system with more than 3 million kWh. Annually, it will supply about 7.2 million kWh for the system, contributing to meet the demand of the area particularly and the national electricity system generally. The anticipated turnover of the plant is about VND7,000-8,000 per year, contributing importantly to the total one of the Corporation, the local and central budgets.

     According Mr Le Van Tuan, LILAMA General Director, Vung Ang 1 was the biggest project performed by LILAMA, a domestic main contractor. Overcoming all difficulties during the process of construction, the two machine units of the plant have been finished successfully with all required tests so as to be handed over to Owner for commercial operation. In this project, LILAMA has inherited and promoted the management experience from previous EPC projects.      Speeking at the ceremony, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung emphasized that the successful construction of Vung Ang 1 thermal power plant had a turning-point meaning, this was a coal-fired power plant having the biggest capacity of machine unit in Vietnam with advanced & modern technology, using domestic coals as main fuel. And this was the first time both Owner and Main Contractor were Vietnamese enterprizes, implementing the policy of promoting internal forces among which mechanical manufacture and machinery installation were important fields. Prime Minister asserted that we always encouraged foreign investment, however we also needed internal forces besides to speed up the country's industrialization & modernization.

     Prime Minister highly appreciated and praised the efforts of engineers & workers at site who had overcome many hardships to master technology, contributing to develop the social economy and enhancing the capability of machinery installation branch. He said “It is a great pleasure that the Vietnamese engineers & workers have grown up and they can build hydro power plants, coal-fired thermal power plants, gas thermal power plants by themselves.” He also added that the Vietnam country which had been short of electricity in the past but now had excessive capacity of 20-25% for provision.

     As for Ha Tinh province, Prime Minister expressed his happiness due to the great results of its party committee and people. However, this was just the beginning because the potentials of the province were very big. The total capitals to invest in Vung Ang economic area could be twice or three times in comparison with those for the time being. It was possible that Vung Ang would become a general and versatile economic area of Ha Tinh province and northern Central Part, contributing to industrialize and modernize the country. Moreover, Prime Minister also required Ha Tinh to take initiative in all work, keep & maintain the security and protect the environment.
